I have finally found a television program that I like. It is
multi-faceted and each part is ongoing from week to week. It is called
"The! Tetsuwan! DASH!!" and the stars are the Tokio singing group. But
this program is not about music. For many months now I have been watching these
young men grow rice and other crops with totally natural farming methods, raise
animals, and rebuild a 200-year-old farm house on the property they call
Dashmura. They even thatched the roof themselves with some help from the
neighbors. Recently they made their own yuba, and also buckwheat noodles from
scratch. I really admire them and their sincere hard work, for each week is a
lesson in preserving culture.

Ordinarily, I can't tell one pop group from another. But, today
on TV I saw them dressed in outlandish costumes for one of their music concerts.
Their sunburned faces and healthy muscles from all that hard work came shining
through and I wasn't fooled. Dashing means handsome, in a rugged, active, and
substantive way. I think Tokio are about as "dashing" as any young men
could possibly be.
