Do you ever go out dancing? Do you dance with your friends or company in the local Maturis or are you shy and just dance by yourself when no one is at home? Maybe you dance in a troupe in the hallways of Gintengai or
Okaido. I'm not much of a dancer myself but I love to see good dancing. Several weeks ago, I had the chance to see a program at the kenmin bunka kaikan presented by the Morita Koji jazz dance school. It was fantastic!
The program had wonderful costuming and choreography and was thoroughly professional. Yet, at the same time it let the personalities and naivete of the dancers, whose ages ranged from preschoolers to adults, to shine through.

My favorite number was "The Lift is up Where We Belong" from the motion picture "An Officer and A Gentleman," which I felt perfectly captured the essence of both the song and the movie. Interestingly, my favorite movie in Japanese is "Shall We Dance?".
On a cultural note, I found the Japanese audience to be very low key but I think they more than made up for it with the huge amounts of flowers they bestowed upon the dancers. The dancers themselves conveyed a message that transcended cultures. It simply said, "Let's Dance!"
