I saw the most fascinating TV show the other day. It was one of the many South Korean dramas that have captured the hearts of Japanese TV viewers. It was a story about two brothers who like the same woman. The story wasn't so original, but the acting was pretty good and the South Korean landscape was intriguing, also. However, the most interesting aspects of the show, for me, were the heavy colors, the random changing of setting and especially the constant background music. When a young man and woman went to the restaurant there was music. When they were in the apartment there was more music. When they went to the fish market there was a beautiful love song blaring while they stared at each other for half a minute.

In one scene in particular, they were standing on a very busy street with trucks roaring past and the only sounds on the TV were the voices of the man and woman almost drowned out by a slow soft ballad. I had never seen shows like this South Korean drama before. I kind of liked it. I could just turn off my mind and listen to the pretty music and look at the pretty colors and pretty people. It was very surrealistic. I think America has to too much "reality TV". I might like this kind of show because it provides a surreal fantasy world where you can take a break from reality. I wonder why Japanese people like them so much?
