A frequent topic often discussed when meeting new people is about hobbies. Since moving to
Matsuyama, I have met many new people, so am constantly faced with how to contribute something interesting to the hobby discussion. But I have gradually come to realise that my favourite hobby I passionately enjoy doing and talking about is eating. Japanese cuisine has indulged this hobby by making not only the eating but the preparation fun. Okonomiyaki or yakiniku sizzles on a hot plate built into the table. Favourite vegetables and meats are dropped into a bubbling hotpot boiling in front of
you.

As the weather further cools, out comes the mochi making equipment and large pots of cooked rice are pounded into mochi destined for ozoni soup. And a skill I acquired recently in Kagawa is the kneading, dancing upon and finely cutting udon dough to make long strips of plump, delicious
udon. Always willing to try something new, I look forward to adding to my newly realised
hobby's repertoire.
