We
had a rather mild winter this year and there were predictions that we would have
an early spring. In some ways that prediction came true, but mainly it was
because we never really had a winter that I could tell! The later weeks of
winter were very spring-like. Another prediction was that the cherry trees would
bloom especially early this year. Some were saying that mid-March was a
possibility. So here it is, almost the last day of March and still the cherry
tree near my office that always blooms early looks bare. Today there were only a
few blossoms. I wonder if the tree didn’t hear the “official announcement”
that cherry blooming has begun in Ehime?

Those
announcements always amuse me, because I wonder why it has to be “officially
announced?” Seems anyone who looks at the trees should be able to decide on
their own whether they are blooming or not. Anyway, Mother Nature has fooled us
again by sending that last blast of cold air our way a few weeks ago, and
despite the expert predictions and the “blooming announcements,” I haven’t
seen any good cherry blossoms yet. Have you? (March 27)
